In a remarkable achievement, the students of Dominican Convent Primary School have earned the honour of representing Zimbabwe and the entire African continent at the prestigious World Choir Games in New Zealand. This event, often dubbed the "Olympics of choral music," brings together the best young voices from around the globe, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry and musical prowess of different nations.

The journey to this international stage has been truly remarkable and inspiring. Under the expert guidance of their dedicated music teachers, Mr Byron Manake and Miss Selina Rangarirai, the Dominican Convent (DC Junior Choir) has consistently captivated audiences with their harmonious melodies and vibrant performances. Their diverse repertoire, encompassing traditional Zimbabwean songs and contemporary pieces, showcases the choir's versatility and profound respect for their cultural heritage.

"This is a historic moment and our students have worked incredibly hard, and their dedication has paid off. We are thrilled to represent Zimbabwe and Africa at such a prestigious event. It's an opportunity to share our unique sound and stories with the world."

The World Choir Games, taking place in Auckland, New Zealand, from July 10 to July 20, is featuring choirs from over 50 countries.

The choir's participation in this global event has garnered widespread support from the local community and beyond. Fundraising efforts have seen contributions from parents, alumni, local businesses, and even government officials. "It’s heart-warming to see how everyone has come together to support our choir," said the deputy head, Mrs. Nkomazana. "This is more than just a musical competition; it’s a celebration of our culture and our unity."

For many of the students, this trip marks their first experience traveling outside of Zimbabwe. "I'm so excited to see New Zealand and meet other kids from different countries," said 12-year-old choir member, Joy Matsekete. "We’ve been practicing so hard, and I can’t wait to sing on that big stage."

In addition to their competitive performances, the choir will participate in cultural exchanges, providing them with a platform to learn and grow as future musicians and global citizens. The World Choir Games emphasizes not only competition but also the importance of cultural exchange and mutual understanding through music.

The students embarked on this incredible journey, carrying with them the hopes and pride of a nation. Their participation in the World Choir Games stands as a testament to the power of dedication, teamwork, and the unifying magic of music. During the send off mass celebrated by father Guide Maravanyika OP who quoted St Augustine ,” To Sing is to pray twice”.

Zimbabwe and Africa will be watching closely, cheering on these young ambassadors as they raise their voices in song, reminding the world of the beauty and resilience of their homeland.
